AMD has reached a notable milestone on Steam. According to Valve’s latest Steam Hardware Survey, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is now the most popular individually listed AMD GPU among surveyed users, reaching roughly 1.5% of systems and moving ahead of several older Radeon favorites.
That puts it above cards such as the RX 6600, which had remained one of AMD’s most common GPUs on Steam for years. The newer RX 9060 XT also sits below it, making the 9070 XT one of the clearest signs yet that AMD’s current RDNA 4 generation is gaining stronger traction among PC gamers.

The RX 9070 XT launched in March 2025 with 16GB of GDDR6 memory and a bigger focus on improved ray tracing, efficiency, and AI-assisted graphics features. It did not instantly dominate AMD’s Steam numbers, but its share has continued to climb over time, which makes the result more meaningful than a short launch spike.
Nvidia still controls a much larger part of the Steam hardware landscape. GPUs such as the RTX 3060 and RTX 5070 continue to hold significantly higher shares, while several other GeForce models also rank above the RX 9070 XT. So AMD is not suddenly challenging Nvidia’s overall dominance.
What has changed is AMD’s position inside its own lineup. Instead of an older budget card being the most common Radeon on Steam, the top spot now belongs to a current-generation GPU aimed at higher-end gaming, which is a better sign for AMD’s newest architecture.

Steam Hardware Survey data should not be treated as exact global sales figures because Valve only measures participating Steam users. Still, it remains one of the most useful snapshots of what active PC gamers are actually using across millions of systems.
For AMD, the takeaway is simple: RDNA 4 is becoming more visible in real gaming PCs. The RX 9070 XT still has a long way to go before it can challenge Nvidia’s most popular cards, but becoming AMD’s leading named GPU on Steam is a solid milestone for the Radeon brand.
