Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Revealed — Capcom Is Making Wilds Much Bigger in 2027

Capcom isn’t finished expanding Monster Hunter Wilds. During the latest State of Play, the company officially revealed Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the game’s first major expansion, currently scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027. And judging by the first details, this looks like much more than another collection of monsters and equipment.

One of the biggest additions is Skybound Eyrie, a completely new hunting area that will give players another environment to explore beyond the regions already available in Wilds. Capcom is also expanding the monster roster with both new and returning Elder Dragons, alongside completely new creatures such as Gundoraja. Another monster, Arakeeta, will even be playable during a special demo planned for Tokyo Game Show 2026.

Combat is getting attention as well. Ascendance introduces new hunting mechanics, including something called Boost Action, which could give hunters additional ways to approach fights. Capcom hasn’t revealed every detail about how the system works yet, but combined with new monsters and environments, it suggests the expansion is designed to change more than simply what players are hunting.

The story will also continue beyond the events of the base game. Ascendance follows the Expedition Team into another chapter, meaning players who have already spent dozens or even hundreds of hours exploring Monster Hunter Wilds will have a new reason to return. Exactly how large the new campaign will be remains unclear, but major Monster Hunter expansions have traditionally been substantial additions rather than small DLC packs.

Naturally, comparisons with Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak are already going to happen. Both expansions significantly extended the lifespan of their respective games with new monsters, locations, equipment, challenges, and endgame content. Whether Ascendance reaches that same scale hasn’t been confirmed, so calling it “Wilds’ Iceborne” is still premature.

There are also several important details Capcom hasn’t revealed yet. Ascendance currently has no exact release date, price, final monster count, or updated PC system requirements. We also don’t know how much new endgame content will be included or whether the expansion will introduce major changes to progression.

Still, the announcement is an important step for Monster Hunter Wilds. The base game established Capcom’s newest generation of Monster Hunter, but expansions are often where these games become much larger and more complete experiences. With a new region, additional monsters, fresh mechanics, and another chapter of the story, Ascendance could be the update that brings a lot of hunters back in 2027.

For now, Capcom is keeping plenty of details hidden. But with Tokyo Game Show 2026 offering the first playable look at some of the expansion’s new content, we probably won’t have to wait too long before learning what Ascendance really adds to the hunt.
